Emotional.Store creates large scale, multimedia projects that explore the newly forming collective consciousness brought about by the union of the physical with the virtual, and the onset of obsolescence. Through comedic storytelling, magical language, and technological seduction, Emotional.store projects weave audience members through a viscerally weird conversation around the interplay between systems that drive technological progress and the phenomenology of engagement in a digitally and physically hybridized world.
Emotional.Store is the collaborative duo of artists Scotty Wagner and Bailey Hikawa. In 2017, their first multimedia project, Trial Child: Nurture a Better Nature, was shown in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Minneapolis. In 2018, they were awarded a residency at MOCA Tucson where they created and debuted their second large-scale performance and video work, 100 Year Plan. This ongoing project has received support from Foundation for Contemporary Arts, New York and CultureHub, Los Angeles. Emotional.Store was awarded a 2019 residency at Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, Omaha, NE. Emotional.Store lives and works in Los Angeles.
100 Year Plan is a multidisciplinary performance project by Emotional.Store. Set to probe our physically and virtually hybridized minds in the midst of automation takeover, 100 Year Plan combines livestream performance, pre-recorded videos, songs, websites and wearables into an abstract story of two creatives who put everything into a path for digital success.
A live-cinema experience, 100 Year Plan is a dystopian response to participating in the creator economy. In consideration of the overlaps faced by both artists and content producers of all kinds, 100 Year Plan comically and critically explores how the performance of the self is intertwined with shifts in the economic, technical and cultural structures of our time.
