LOS ANGELES FELLOW | 2023

EXPERIMENTS IN DIGITAL STORYTELLING | 2021–2022

Stacy Dawson Stearns

Stacy Dawson Stearns uses the corporeal body as a tool to explore human consciousness. Originating in performance, her practice includes film, writing, new media, and the making of objects that stimulate thought. A Modern Transcendentalist, Stacy sometimes creates via trance states and a walking form of channeling that occurs after conducting excessive research. She is the recipient of a Bessie Award for her portrayal of Satan in Big Dance Theater’s Another Telepathic Thing (2000) and was a member of the illustrious Blacklips performance Cult. She is currently writing a book that encourages others to make art and her pamphlet, Howe To Rehearse, is set for release in April.

As a CultureHub fellow, I will activate synapses between CultureHub and visionary communities operating within the city and county of Los Angeles, which is situated on the unceded land of the Tongva, Tataviam, Serrano, Kizhh, and Chumash Peoples. I embrace this opportunity to encourage others through access to new media tools and an expanded audience.

In alignment with CultureHub’s legacy of creative stewardship, I seek to stimulate collaborations between local artists, social justice advocates, and technologists to be amplified via CultureHub’s global network. Within my own practice, I will experiment with form and modality as I share works-in-process during EDS (Experiments in Digital Storytelling.)
