Experiments in Live Editing: Video Mixing Stop-Motion

August 8, 2025
Presented by CultureHub LA

Experiments in Live Editing: Video Mixing Stop-Motion explores the possibilities of DIY hardware controls, such as classic gaming buttons, sliders, and joysticks, as mechanisms for live-editing animated films. During this 25-minute performance (followed by a Q&A and refreshments), puppeteer and filmmaker Zach Dorn live-edited a version of his newest animated film with a custom built DIY video mixer prototyped during his residency.. The video mixer, built specifically for film, utilizes analog movements to highlight the physical hands-on process of Dorn's stop-motion animation.

Experiments in Live Editing: Video Mixing Stop-Motion was developed in the CultureHub Experiments in Digital Storytelling Program
