Join CultureHub LA Resident Artist Brandon Brown for a Poppy Jam Session where he will introduce and demo Poppy and get your feedback and ideas for the future.
Poppy uses motion capture, machine learning, and programmable audio tools to create improvisational dialogue between dancers and an adaptive musical score. Poppy was inspired by the improvisational dance/music frameworks found throughout the African Diaspora. With this project, Brown wants to explore these frameworks, draw attention to their embodied knowledge of self-organizing systems and ultimately develop new expressive tools for the preservation and renewal of Black music and dance.
