CultureHub Resident Artist Joe Diebes, in collaboration with an ensemble of Los Angeles based performers and artists (Gina Young, Paul Outlaw, Derya Derman), will share what emerges from an intensive weeklong workshop in the CultureHub LA studio. Over The Horizon is a performance system that composites live actors into a 3-D game engine as a means to critically explore the colonial dimension of virtual environments and how gaming worlds often participate in the American military-entertainment complex. The goal is not to arrive at a polished final image, but to make a theatrical event out of the making of the image. After presenting some preliminary sketches, Diebes and the ensemble will have an informal discussion about possibilities and pitfalls of integrating real-time graphics with live performance.
