Cruising and Artmaking: Talking Shop

October 31, 2023
10am ET
Online

As part of their residency at CultureHub NYC, artists Michael Leibenluft and Sadah Espii Proctor are hosting a conversation that gathers Queer artists who have (or are) creating work about cruising spots in their local communities. Michael and Espii hope the informal conversation will build community, deepen their own Untitled Cruising Project in development, and provide a space for artists to share strategies for responding to historic sites, navigating stigma, and engaging with Queer public space.

The time of this conversation is subject to change, pending the availability of participants in different timezones.

If you would like to participate, please contact info@culturehub.org with a little information about yourself and your interest in joining the conversation. This event is not open to the general public. No participant's identity will be shared publicly without full consent.

This project is being supported within the CultureHub Residency program.

UNTITLED CRUISING PROJECT is an AR + sound walk exploring the history of cruising in the Ramble in Central Park, which has been a major site of gay and Queer gathering since at least the early 20th century. By exploring the meaning of Queer sites in both the past and present, the project champions sex positivity and safer sex practices as part of our care for, appreciation, and attention to the natural world and reveals how LGBTQ+ individuals have always been at the center of our communities and public spaces.
