Call Waiting / Excerpts

This video contains excerpts from a student driven project that incorporated telepresence technology as a platform for multi-media/multi-location performance. The work was entitled CALL WAITING. Paul McIsaac of Playback Theatre NYC worked with a team of professors at the Seoul Institute of the Arts to help the students realize their vision. The concept for the piece arose when students decided to modernize a traditional Korean Shaman ritual as a means to process and leave behind what had been a challenging year for Korea as well as the rest of the world. A story line developed that centered around the relationship between two main characters. Students auditioned and selected an NYC based actor to portray the male lead and Culturehub studio was transformed into a New York apartment. The story is about love and loss and culminates with a climactic shaman dance and a series of projected flames.
